Unfitting, Painful Retainers On Teeth. History Of Not Using It For Long Time. Possible Slightly Moving Of Teeth Due To Growth Of Wisdom Teeth?
I had braces for about 4 years and got them off about a year or two ago. I wore my retainer a lot when I first got them off and started to not wear it as much as time went on, now I haven't worn it in almost 5 months, and I tried to put it back in and it wont fit, it hurts to "pop" it in all the way. But I also noticed that my wisdom teeth are growing in now. Could it just be my wisdom teeth making my teeth move slightly or just because I didn't wear my retainer?
hi... thanks for the query... well... it can be due to both the reasons... retainers are meant for this purpose only... to maintain your teeth in the desired position... and wisdom teeth also puts pressure on other teeth and make them move in slightly forward position... so don't wore it again... it can prove harmful... visit your orthodontist again... ask him if the wisdom tooth should be retained or extracted... and go for new retainer that fits over your teeth after proper treatment... hope it will help you... take care...
If the retainers are not fitting to you please dont force to fit it, this is probably due to not wearing it for a long time. I would suggest you to consult the Orthodontist get the checkup done and if required you can get the another set of retainers. Remember you have to use the set of retainers regularly otherwise treatment relapse can take place. maintain a very good oral hygiene while using the applaince.
hello retainers are meant to be weared for atleast 3-6 months so that good alveolar bone is formed and your teeth rest in that position for your life now if wisdom teeth erupts after you stopped wearing retainer then surely they would push your other teeth in forward direction and hence your old retainer would not fit so what i would advise is that you visit your orthodontist and consult whether you need a new retainer or you need an extraction of your wisdom teeth hope that helps

Unfitting, Painful Retainers On Teeth. History Of Not Using It For Long Time. Possible Slightly Moving Of Teeth Due To Growth Of Wisdom Teeth?
Hello, Thanks for choosing HCM. After completion of orthodontic treatment retainer is must to prevent relapse... Sometimes retainer is indicated for a long time depending on your pretreatment condition and treatment plan... But you should remove the retainer after consulting with your orthodontist.. I think some relapse has occured... You should consult with orthodontist and take proper guidance... Maintain oral hygiene properly... Get well soon...
