Urine Test Done, Found Traces Of Blood. Ultrasound Of Kidney And Bladder Done. Cause? Cancer?

Hello my name is Ken. I went to the doctor for a check up. I had no problems I was just there for my annual check up. They did a urine test and found a trace of blood. It was repeated a few day later with the same result. About 5 and 15 years ago a trace was found but with follow up no blood was found. I had an ultrasound of my Kidneys and Bladder. There were no stones but it did show a collapsed bladder. An appointment is made to see a urologist.

What are the chances of cancer and what is the most common cause of this?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are a wide range of potential causes for blood in the urine. To determine the exact cause you doctor will rely on your history and examination as well as assessment of the urine. The presence of certain particles in the urine may indicate whether the blood is related to an infection or other aspects of the kidney.
For example the presence of substances called red cell casts may indicate that a specific part of the kidney is involved.

There are a number of other causes besides cancer such as trauma, disease of part of the kidney called the glomerulus, side effect of medication, related to prostatic disease, due to metabolic abnormalities, cysts.

Your doctor may suggest a number of tests to determine the cause.

I hope this helps
