What Are Chances Of Normal Delivery When Cervix Is Effaced?
im 39 weeks pregnant.its my first time and my cervix is not dilated or effaced. My placental maturity is grade 3 with some focal areas of degeneration and calcification with borderline AFI.my doctor is planning for c section on 25th dec..wat are my chances of normal labour
Lack of cervicxal dolatation or effacement does not mean that a trial of normal labor cannot be given. There is a score called the Bishops score that helps in determining the chances of spontaneous labor. If the score is unfavorable then use of drugs like oxytocin and prostaglandins can be made to soften and dilate the cervix as well as induce contractions. They may not suceed every time but a trial is made.
However the decision for induction of labor also depends upon other factors like fetal well being, size of baby and size of pelvis. If all these are favorable then induction and trial of labor is given. If not then a cesarean is planned. So please discuss all these with your doctor and then opt for the final decision.
