Hi,
Ciplactin (
cyproheptadine) is a serotonin and histamine antagonist commonly prescribed for the treatment of symptoms associated with allergic conditions such as perennial/seasonal
allergic rhinitis,
conjunctivitis due to inhalant allergens and foods, urticarial and angioedema. It is not approved for the treatment to gain weight.
Its common side effects include drowsiness and sleepiness, disturbed coordination, confusion, restlessness, excitation, nervousness, tremor, convulsions, euphoria, and
hallucinations. It may also cause dry mouth,
blurred vision, increased heartbeats, constipation, urinary retentions, increased appetite and weight gain. There is no documented evidence that it will interfere with conception or reduce the efficacy of contraceptive pills.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
