What Are The Risks If Plavix 7 Is Consumed Or Not?

My husband s neurologist gave orders to stop the use of plavix 7 days prior to his angiogram. However the vascular surgeon who will be doing the procedure told him to keep taking it. His ultrasound shows 100% occlusion of the right carotid artery. What are the risks both ways (with and without the use of plavix)?

I would defer to the person actually doing the procedure, which is the vascular surgeon. The neurologist probably assumed that the vascular surgeon wanted him to be off the plavix for the angiogram, however many vascular surgeons are comfortable doing angiograms while patients are on plavix. An angiogram entails making a puncture in the groin with a catheter, so there is some risk of bleeding, however as mentioned many vascular surgeons will do the procedure while the patient is still on plavix. Bottom line - the vascular surgeon is the one doing the procedure and it is his call.
