Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am using isotrex gel which has caused acne to break out around my mouth and chin. I have been using it for 3 weeks now, my doctor didn t warn me that my skin could get worse before it gets better. Would it be ok not to shave while using this treatment? I m finding it very difficult, even with an electric razor. Shaving increases soreness and redness and I thought that if I washed thoroughly and rubbed the isotrex gel in properly and also use a non oil mosturiser it may cut down my pain and irritation while also hiding the redness while the gel is putting my skin through its initial break out stage. In short, is it ok to have a beard and use this medication?
My advice for you will be: 1. Try to avoid using a blade around the area with acne as it can cause them to bleed 2. Do not rub the ointment in. Just Dab it around the area and gently massage it 3. if they increase in intensity the you can use T.Doxycycline 100 1-0-1 for 5 days and see if they improve. 3. Clean you face with a clean soft towel.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Abdul Nasir, Internal Medicine Specialist
