Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has a syst and the doctor gave her Asmita (Drospirenone and ethiylestradiol) tablets. I would like to know if there are any side effects of the medicine and how long doe it take for the body to get use to these tablets. If there is any other alternate that we should look at..
Asmita tablet contains both ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone which is used to prevent pregnancy and in the treatment of irregular periods. It helps to prevent release and fertilization of the eggs. Side effects of Asmita are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, GIT upset, headache, weight gain, breast pain, irregular uterine bleeding, constipation, depression, flatulence, vaginal discharge, vaginal irritation, mood swings, eye burning, anorexia etc. Body may take 7 days to get adjust with medicine, hence use condom during first week to avoid pregnancy. Progesterone only pill may be an alternative. But, your doctor is the best judge to choose medication for you.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General & Family Physician
