Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I was born with a cleft palate, since my late teens i've had what may be sinis problems, with mucus (especially when i have a cold) coming down my throat more than my nose. like ther's a gap, when i vomit more will come through my nose than my mouth, odd i know. Are they connected as an efffect of having a cleft palate? Is there something that's not closed?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain first of all I would like to tell you that draining of mucous in the throat is not an abnormal finding as the sinuses drain through the nose while the nose and throat are connected via nasopharynx and post nasal drip is common in case of severe cold and phlegm formation.. Other thing is that in case of vigorous vomiting the vomitus can get out from nose and it is also not uncommon.. But considering it a cleft palate is not right as it is not an abnormal finding and still if you doubt about it you can consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated to confirm whether there is a cleft or not.. In case of cleft either prosthetic appliances like a Palatal Obturator or surgical correction can be done..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
