What Are The Side Effects Of Minocycline And Raccutane?

Hi Dr,I am 18 year old male that used to have a very very severe case of acne.I went to see a dermatologist and and he started with a few topic medications and a pill whose comercial name is Minot but I am pretty sure it actually is minocycline. Now after 2-3 months of that he decided to prescribe me raccuatne(accutane? Right?) And I have being taking 20mg of it for the last 2 months and now that i am on my third month with raccutane,he sent me 30 mg.It didnt really bothered me but i did some research online and it is starting to scare me,I want to trust my dermatologist but I am afraid of the side effects.I went to see him because many people that i have met who has had severe cases of acne have went to see him and they reccomende him to me.But I am still afraid of the treatment mostly because of all the side effects i have read on the internet and the fact that my joints hurt which is not very normal for me. What would recommend to do? Keep with the treatment and talk to my Dr about my concerns or search for a new dermatologist, etc? Please help! Thanks a lot Dr.Wonderful ^^ Have a nice day, Andrew Ni.

Hello Andrew,
Accutane (isotretinoin) is used in the management of severe acne. 30mg is relatively less dose. Doses upto 120 mg can be given to an adult of 60kgs. (2mg/kg).
Joint pain is a known side effect of this drug. If the pain is unbearable, I suggest you to discuss with your dermatologist. He may suggest to reduce the dose or completely stop the drug and try alternatives depending upon the severity.
One out of the context suggestion is to not look for side effects of the drug over internet and get scared. Almost all medicines can have serious side effects but not all those who take it will get that serious side effect. So my suggestion is always to discuss the problems with your consultant and resolving it.
Hope the above points will help you in your discussion with Dermatologist. And would strongly recommend against any change in consultancy at this stage.
