With gluformin 1000 once aday my blood glucose level used to fall to(115/70). my physician has advised me insulin injection (biphasic isophane) twice a day.I d o not find any improvement with this would you advise me to go back to gluformin What are its side effect? Age 80yrs have controlled HBP with Atinol weight 172 kg height 5 5

Hi, for elderly more than 70 years we prefer insulin as this is more physiological. You can continue metformin but with extra care. The side effects that may occur are gastric discomfort and more importantly lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis is the more problematic one in elderly. Also check your renal function tests more oftenly if you want to use metformin.
