Hi, I am 24 male, and for some time I continue to have acne on scalp ... recently it started to get a bit worse, pustules at the size of a coin, and red spots ... it itches and I noticed hair is falling off especially when I scratch and have a tendency to pull ... recently I am washing it daily with treatment shampoo that contains salicylic acid and not with water but with camomile tea ... I noticed that the camomile tea stops my itching and therefore I don't scratch that much anymore ... but the pimples still appear and hair is still falling ... in the summer I took antibiotics ( tetraciclyne ) for a long time ( started with high dose and finishing with a pill per day for nearly a month ) I noticed the pimples and itch dissapeared ... but after finishing antibiotics after a month and a half the acne reappeared ... what can you recommend I can use and will my hair grow back if I cure the acne?
hi, looks like you have developed folliculitis ( pyoderma)over you scalp.
Folliculitis (also known as "Hot Tub Rash") is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin with the exception of the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. They may appear as red dots firstly and then increase in size to become red , hot, tender pus filled lesions. Avoid touching it too much. Avoid using any kind of cold dreams or hair oils, as it might increase the lesion. You can start using any topical antibiotic/antiseptic cream over the lesion and see if it persists even after using the cream for 2-3 days, then you need to consult a skin specialist as lesions on the scalp are very painful and also they tend to increase in size very quickly. Take some pain killers along for relieving the associated pain and discomfort.
Hope it helps Dr Geetika Paul
