What Can Be The Reason For Frequent Severe Headache ?

Dear Doctor,

I am having severe/throbbing head ache once in almost every week. This is for the last 25 years.. Now I consulted a doctor and he prescribed Depakine Chrono 500 mg, 1 each per day, and I have already started it for about two weeks. Doctor prescribed it for one month. He said it would be because of migraine or some tension related head ache. Kindly advise

Hi,

Long standing throbbing headache lasting for more than 4 hours with photophobia/phonophobia/nausea/vomiting/stress is triggered by either sunlight/loud noise/travelling/lack of food/lack of sleep/menstruation. If relieved by sleep/simple analgesic then it could be migraine. If it is triggered by stress/tension/pressure without typical above features then it could be tension headache. Knowing and avoiding triggers, regular food/sleep/exercise/yoga are best preventive measures.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Poonam Awatare
