General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

The swelling is likely occurring as a result of the inflammatory response to the trauma that he experienced.

Swelling can also occur secondary to infection , because of the risk of infection in diabetics, it may be best to have him reassessed. The risk of infection is low if there are no open cuts or bruises.

The doctor would be able to determine if there is an infection present.

I hope this helps
