What Cause Mole Like Bump On The Scalp?

Have mole like bump on scalp (back side) that i have hade for about 7 months. It hurts around the bump and when you press on it. It also feels like it scabs up every once in a while. Also wife says it looks puffy around what appears to be a mole. What could it be?
