What Cause Yellow Phlegm After Treated Right Lobe Infiltrate?

I had a previous chest x-ray which revealed a right upper lobe infiltrate. I was given a 20 day antibiotic treatment with levofloaxin. Today, I still cough up yellow phlem. I do not have fevers or cough, but my ears are clogged and sometimes my eyes burn. What could this be?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, it seems that you are having partial recovery.
Usual time for recovery is 15-20 days.
Even after 20 days, you are still having yellowish expectoration, so better to get done chest x ray first.
Compare chest x ray (new one) with the initial chest x ray.
If infiltration is reduced or gone completely then no need to worry much.
But if infiltration is same or worsening then you should consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Sputum examination for AFB (acid fast bacilli-bacteria causing tuberculosis) because tuberculosis is common in upper lobe infiltration.
2. Sputum culture and sensitivity for the isolation of organism.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
