What Causes A 3cm Shadow In The Lung?

hiya my dad is 79 and has suffered with bronchitis all his life, he had a routine chest xray as the doctor said he hadnt had one since registered with him some 8 years now. they have found a 3cm shadow on his lung and is now waiting for a consultants appointment. he doesnt smoke he is 5.8 and 13stone we are of course all upset but am i right that it can be a scar from the bronchitis or even something from his heart bypass he had 15 years ago

If a shadow is found in CT scan of chest then it may be a pneumonic patche or a space occupying lesion.
I suggest he takes a course of antibiotic for 7 days then repeat a chest x ray.If the shadow still persist then CT guided biopsy from the shadow is recommended to rule out malignancy.
