What Causes A Black Birthmark On The Head Of A Child?
My 5 week old was born with a black birthmark on his head. Yesterday I took him to the doctor for his one month checkup and asked him to look at the birthmark because it seemed to me indented. He grew concerned and said he does not like it at all and would like him to see a dermatologist right away. What could this be?? I m very concerned and can t wait for answers!

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. The commonest reason for birthmark in a child is due to malformations in blood vessels. Various types are there. Many time they grow till one year of age then resolve on its own over a period of 5 - 7 yrs. But it needs to be checked by pediatric surgeon to determine the diagnosis. Sometimes we do give medication to resolve faster depending on the symptoms.

If it is not growing aggressively you do not need to do anything at moment.
