General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Tongue is a sense organ So it is richly supplied by nerve fibers. There are small minute papilae on tongue which have taste buds & nerve fibers too.
The piercing of tongue/wearing studs on tip of tongue sometimes causes soreness of the papilae there, they get inflamed & get irritated /start burning on taking hot things/ salty/sweet things..Ice reduces the swelling & offers relief from the symptom.
Thanks
