What Causes A Seizure While Undergoing An Eye Check Up?
My son, 16 years old, just had an eye exam and suffered a seizure after having numbing drops put in his eyes and a machine holding his head in place. He has never had a seizure before. Is the seizure related to the drops or eye exam, or should I take him in for a full check-up?
So sorry to hear of that incident but medical events are always happening at seemingly the most inopportune times. After a person has had a convulsive event (even if recovery was nearly immediate and complete) it is always medically recommended they be thoroughly checked out..perhaps first by the pediatrician and then, by either a pediatric neurologist or an adult neurologist in this case since he's already 16 and would be generally considered an adult for medical purposes. I don't know at this point anything of the drops or whether it was just a coincidence but the doctor who sees him will likely want to know that information so you should have it ready and on hand for discussion.
