What Causes Abdominal Area Hardness, Back Pain, Cramping With No Periods?

i have an iud, but i think i might be pregnant, i dont have medical insurance to find out, but i dont know what to do, i have had my iud since November 2008. when i lay down i feel a hard area, like a pregnancy would feel except behind my " baby fat" and when i layed down on my bed earlier the hard spot shifted almost like a baby would so i pushed on it and it moved back. HELP am i going crazy or am i pregnant? My lower back really hurts and has for a couple days and i was having cramps yesterday. I dont get a period at all. I have wondered for several months but i dont have a baby bump, and im not a heavy person beside my little baby pouch?

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

If you have a progesterone containing IUD (which I assume since you say that you do not menstruate) and it has not expired (they last 5 years) there is no reason to assume that you are pregnant.

Furthermore, low back pain and cramping can occur as a side effect of the IUD itself, or from other causes such as a urinary tract infection. In addition, in order to feel your uterus abdominally, you would need to be at least three to four months along since the uterus is still too small to feel outside of your pelvis beforehand.

Without seeing a physician, you can purchase an over-the-counter urine pregnancy test which are widely available in most countries and are extremely accurate and perform it according to the package directions. A pregnancy test will be positive within 10 days to 2 weeks after conception.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

Regards,

Dr. Brown
