What Causes Abdominal Cramps During An Early Pregnancy?

I thought I was 7 weeks pregnant. Since I got off birth control right before I got pregnant I could have ovulated later than I expected. When I had very light spotting but some pretty severe cramping yesterday and went in for an ultra sound, the doctor did a transvaginal ultra sound. A gestational sac was found..with a ring around it and there was no fetal pole. They suggested I was actually around 5 weeks pregnant and just not as far along as I thought and requested I come back in 2 weeks for another ultra sound. Could things still be okay with all this cramping? 2 weeks is a lot for me to worry!

Hello dear,I understand your concern. In my opinion around 5 weeks only gestational sac is seen in transvaginal ultrasound. But spotting and cramps might not be a good sign.My aim is not to make you tense but giving you the information so that you will be extra careful.Avoid physical strain, intercourse.Take good rest.As you had miscarriage previously the causes like thyroid abnormalities, progesterone insufficiency, ectopic pregnancy etc should be ruled out.Dont worry as with apt treatment it will subside.
