What Causes Abdominal Pain Post Appendectomy With Inflammation In Colon?

I am 22 y.o. female. Have had abdominal pain for over a month. Had an appendectomy over 6wks ago and still no relief. I had a upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy that found reddness and inflamation in my stomach and colon. When I have a bowel movement it makes me nauseated and give me pain all over my abdomen. I just had red/pink strings all throughout my stool as well as it having mucus. It was floating and pebblely; the only reason I noticed. Should I be worried? What does this mean? What could be causing all this abdominal pain?

Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

You did not mention if biopsy of the tissue was done during endoscopy for a histo pathology study. You have to insist on it if it was not done to rule out some chronic conditions of intestines known which could give rise to symptoms very much like yours. Till that you might go for an antispasmodic drug along with a proton pump inhibitor and an anti emetic. One could also add a probiotic drug to this list. On the diet front, I would also advise you to go for more of roughage and enough liquids.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
