What Causes Absent Periods And Tenderness In Nipples?

I will be 49 next month, and I have not had a period since Oct. 2012. Right now I am feeling tenderness in my nipples and have had signs of ovulation (mucous) for a couple weeks. Could I be getting another period after two years? I have not had intercourse in the last month, so I cannot be pregnant. I have never had ovulation (or I guess I should say, the mucous) for this long. Can this be a symptom of menopause?
