What Causes An Abscess At The Back Of The Throat?

I m a 40 year old male and have a very sore throat for 4 days now .Too sore to speak and can hardly eat or drink.i need to spit all the time and the doctor mentioned an abcess at the back of my throat,how long will this last?Is drinking milk bad for an abcess?

Hello,

It can be a para pharyngeal abscess. Consult an ENT specialist at the earliest and get evaluated. If there is significant pus collection, it must be drained and proper antibiotic cover is also important.
