What Causes Apetite Loss While On Novolog And Levemir?
I m a female African American who has been a type 1 diabetic for 37 years.I m taking 3 shots of novolog and 2 shots of levemir daily. I ve been experiencing a problem with loss of appetite quite often and a since of fullness and bloated feeling in my belly. I v talked to my doctor but she hasn t prescribe any test to find out want my problem is. I m really disappointed in my doctor and i m tried of feeling this way.Can you suggest what I may have or how I can find out what my problem is.
While there are many causes of fullness, bloating, and loss of appetite, with your long history of diabetes I would suspect gastroparesis first, which is when diabetes, over time, affects the nerves to the stomach and the stomach does not push food out as strong as normal. This causes food to back up in the stomach, which can lead to the symptoms you describe.
There are tests that can be done to confirm this diagnosis, or you can be started on treatment to help your stomach push the food better (such as metoclopramide) and see if that helps.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
