What Causes Bleeding And Bad Odour After Inserting Mirena Coil?
Hi I had mirena coil fitted last month it is my third one over a period of time, I usually don't bleed with them but I am bleeding at the moment and the smell from my period is really awful, sour, I am due back to the doctors but just wondered what this could be
Sometimes after inserting the Mirena coil some amount of bleeding can be seen and it may take some time for regularization of the menstrual periods. Also, women with intrauterine contraceptive device are more prone to infections compared with normal women. So, the smell and pain you are having could be due to possible pelvic infection.
As you are going to consult your doctor during the visit she may advise clinical examination and if needed pap smear and vaginal swab for culture and sensitivity. With this work up the possible cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly. Meanwhile, you can use a vaginal wash with pH 3.5 to 4.5, which can help in decreasing the foul smell.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
