Hello Dear,
Thank you for your question.

In my opinion, your history and the result of your test suggest an infection of the urinary tract.

The next step should be obtaining a urine sample for culture. This way your doctor will be able to identify the causative microorganism and the right antibiotic to use.

In order to get an accurate result the urinary specimen should be taken properly. It is advisable that you provide a sample from the midstream portion of the first morning urine (try not to urinate during the night), after thoroughly cleaning your genital area. The sample should reach the lab preferably within 1 hour. The result will take at least 48 hours.

While waiting for the result, I suggest to my patients to drink plenty of water, cranberry tea or cranberry extract capsules which are scientifically proven to help relieve the infection. Warm baths may help you control your urine better.

After the results come up, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics for 3 to 10 days, depending on the case. I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Dr. Alma
