What Causes Cellulitis?

Five days ago my husband was outside working in the back yard and when he came in to wash up he noticed that his hand was quite swollen on top. The next day it started to turn blue and had a sort of a boney bump about the size of a penny above the bone between the knuckle and the wrist. The third day the bruise covered the entire top of his hand and his fingers and his whole hand was very swollen. He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with cellulitis. The doctor presribed antibiotics for him which he has been taking for three days now. He has had this discoloration and swelling for five days and his hand is now a red/yellow colour but is still quite swollen. I am beginning to wonder if the diagnosis is correct. May I please get your opinion. Thank you. Kate
