Hello,

I can understand your concern. Pinching pain in cheek is typical pain which is nerve related which supplies the area. In addition, as your doctor has prescribed you Oxitol 450 mg (Carbamazepine), it confirms the diagnosis of possible Trigeminal Neuralgia, which occurs due to dysfunction of the Trigeminal Nerve.

The medicine you have been given is the first medicine tried in such cases and it usually works very well. However, in your case, as you are not having relief with it, dose can be increased or you can be switched to Gabapentin which is also given for the neuralgia pain.

Options other than medicines that you have include injection of alcohol directly into the nerve which will subside the pain for 6 months to 1 year and then the procedure can be repeated. In addition, other surgical options such as microvascular decompression can be discussed with your neurologist or neurosurgeon.

I would advise you to visit your neurologist or oral & maxillofacial surgeon regarding the problem and discuss alternative options that can be applied to you.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
