I've finally stopped smoking by switching to the new, smokeless "e-cigarettes" which contain only nicotine and flavor in a water-based vapor. My doctor told me I may have clogged my arteries due to the years of smoking cigarettes. My question is, was it the nicotine that contributed to clogging the arteries, or was it all the crap in 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke that clogged them? I feel much better not actually smoking but I wonder if the nicotine itself will continue to contribute to clogged arteries?
Clogging of blood vessels can occur with nicotine and other chemicals present in the cigarette smoke. It causes a disease known as Burger's disease, also known as thrombo angitis obliterans in which ultimately gangrene of distal parts of limbs occur.
