What Causes Congestion And Cough After An Angioplasty?

Dear Doctor, My father had a angioplasty 6 weeks back . This was his third angioplasty after previous ones in 2004 and 2010. The earlier stents we re put in the sub arteries but this time it was put in the LAD with 80 % blockage.. On the day of procedure he had loose motions and even went to loo for almost 15-16 times in the CCU . His procedure was done through wrist this time as against leg in the previous two times. After a week he was quite comfortable but after that since last 5 weeks he s been having lot of cough with green sputum and chest congestion . The result is that he is feeling extremely week . He has knee problems so cannot even exercise . His dosage of blood thinning medicine has been doubled from 10mg to 20 mg.. My concern is with his weakness . Has lot of chest congestion with low grade fever sometimes and lots of cough . Had to be given antibiotics but since did not recover properly doctor suggested us to repeat the same after a gap of 10 days . Doesn t have any chest pain at all. Could this be due to stent ??

Respected Sir, hi I evalauted your query thoroughly.
Congestion with cough is due to Respiratory Infection following decreased immunity of the lung by bacteria and absolutely not due to stent at all.
Certain steps you have to follow at home to help him out for fast recovery:
* Continue current medications as per advise by cardiologist.
* He must perform Deep Breathing Exercises with YOGA at least 30-40 min
mor and eve very regularly which is pivotal in his case.
* Tincture Benzoind vapour inhalations 2-3 times a day also helps great.
* Maintain his hydration , blood sugar and BP levels.
* Encourage to rest at home also in semireclining position not straight one.
* Try to manage some amount of walking at least not much then also.
* Avoid smoking / tobacco / alcohol if consuming.
* Avoid much oily / spicy / nonveg / high sugar stuffs.
* Should have adequate sleep of 8 hours.
* In our clinic we recommend antibiotics, decongestants according to
sputum culture report along with other laboratory parameters , X-Ray
findings titrated with clinical findings.
Hope this clears your query upto my level best.

Regards
