Hi Doc Good Day, My brother is 47 years old,he is suffering from fever from last 3 months. It ranges between 99 to 100 frienhiegt.Doctors are not able to pick up any infection and all his blood report are normal. They advised HIV test the test came negtive and then western Blot also negative for all bands.More over when he takes medicne for fever like parcetomal it also doesnot bring fever down. Now doctors ae giving him Tb course they suspect he might be having TB.But still fever is persisting. Please advice is it possible he might still have HIV infection beause I read this much long fever comes in HIV infecton only. But all test report doenot confirm HIV,Please suggest and advice does there a slight chance he is having HIV infection.
There are different type of HIV blood tests and they have different window periods.
The window period is the time from exposure to the point of exposure till when a test can detect infection.
The western blot HIV period is 3 months so if this test was done 3 months after possible exposure then it is likely accurate and he is not HIV positive and the tests are accurate.
I hope this helps
