What Causes Dilatation Of PCS System And Ureters In A Child?
Hello Doctor, This is regarding our son.he is 8 months old and born prematurely during 8th month gestation. He was diagonized with PUV in his 7 month of gestation. On 5th day of his birth we had vesicostomy done. He had UTI attcaks two times in his first 3 months of life. Currently he is 7.7 Kg of weight. healthy and free from all infections. The urine from the vasicostomy has reduced since last one months and his PCS started getting dilated again. We consulted the surgeon regarding the dilatation of stoma he said we need not worry as they would close the vesicotomy soon (1 to 2 weeks) and fulgurate the urethral valves. His latest creatinine(one month ago) is 0.4mg/ul and electrolies and BUN are all with in range. Our concerrn is only the increasing dilation of PCS system and ureters? and there are no other noticable obdervations in ultrasound or even reports. Please enlighten us regarding the PCS system dilation and current situation of our baby. Thanks
I agree with you that there is reason for concern about the increasing dilatation of the PCS. This means that there is a urgent need for the fulguration of the valves. The childs age is now 8 months and will allow for fulguration of the valves. IF there is a delay for some reason, it is better to dilate the vesicostomy to allow free flow of urine through the vesicostomy. THe increasing PCS dilatation may be due to outlet resistance through a narrow Vesicostomy. The fact that the creatinine is normal is good and the long term prognosisi will be good.
