What Causes Early Periods With Birth Control Pills?

Hi, I just finished my period which lasted 7 days, and 4 days later I begin bleeding again. I haven t had a period in 3 months. I started taking a low dose hormone birth control pill 4 months ago. I have had unprotected sex with my partner, i took a pregnancy test a month ago and it was negative. Should I be worried?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,

During the first few months of using oral contraception, breakthrough bleeding and other abnormal bleeding patterns are possible due to altered hormone milieu. However, pregnancy should always be excluded in the current scenario.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam, OBGYN
