What Causes Enlargement Of The Pancreas?
Hi, my father has been having alot of problems with upset stomach over the past several months. They had changed his medicines and he felt these medicines were the cause. So he had stopped using some trial and error to see if this stopped his problem. His upset stomach is not constant. It will be fine for days and then flare up again. He had lost close to 25 lbs. over a 2 month period with out trying. He however does not feel bad and does not have any pains. He had a scope of his colon 2 weeks ago and all came back good. They then did a scan of his abdomen last week and called today and told him that his pancreas is enlarged. They said a normal size is 2 to 3 and his is a 13. I guess my question is what are general causes for this and is this the same thing as pancreaitis?

Noted the history related to your Father suffering from upset stomach for the past several months, got medicines changed, which in fact increased the problem hence he is trying trial and error basis so that some relief may come, lost close to 25 lbs over a 2 month period, does not feel bad or does not have pain, CT scan showed enlarged pancreas and hence wants to know the reasons for enlargement of pancreas.
The causes are:
Alcohol by large is the commonest problem.
Local inflammation.
Gall stone impaction into the pancreatic duct.
Tumor, cancer can be the reason for enlargement.
CT scan should have shown the details an you should have posted the reports for me to interact more.
