What Causes Fever, Laryngitis And Congested Nose With Stuffiness?

good morning. My daughter is 19 months old and has had a fever ranging from99.9 to 100.8 for the past four days now and hasnt really been wanting to eat much for the past two weeks. Today her voice seems raspy. She drinks fine..but doesnt want her milk. She has had a stuffy nose and seems congested. I had her back and forth to the doctor 3times now and they say to just give her motrin or tylonal ... and to try claritin. I feel it is something else. they tested for strep and it is negative. she also started snoring very loud in the past two weeks, she sounds like her father its so loud. her eyes seem darker... I have another appointment for today to seeher doctor but I just wanted to see if anything comes to mind to you from hearing this so when I walk in I have something to come back with... I am scared for my baby, shes my only one

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Is there any stridor (harsh sound when breathing in) or brething difficulty? Fever, stuffy nose and hoarseness of voice suggest an upper respiratory infection. If there is stridor, this may be croup. Snoring is from blocked nose or inflamed adenoids, and voice change suggests laryngeal inflammation.

Most upper respiratory infections are viral, and need only supportive measures. These are cumbersome but not serious. Usually symptoms gets better by 4-5 days, although voice may take few more days to become normal. If the fever is coming down, she is otherwise playful, and there is no stridor or breathing difficulty, you need not worry now. Just continue Motrin and Claritin for total 5 days. For clearing nose, use nasal decongestants like Xylometazoline nasal drops for 3-5 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
