What Causes Fluids In The Transvaginal Canal?

In a transvaginal ultrasound I was told I had trace fluid in a canal and should follow up with my gynecologist. I had just gotten my period after she had done the procedure. Could this fluid that was found be because of my period or is it something else?

Hello,

Fluid I the canal on transvaginal scan indicates there is fluid in pouch of douglas or the in the space behind the uterus. A few conditions where fluid is seen are menstruation, ectopic pregnancy, ovulation, ruptured ovarian cyst, pelvic inflammatory disease, ascites or fluid in abdomen and endometriosis.

In your case, the fluid is most probably due to menstruation. So no need to worry. But it's better to have a follow up after 2-3 weeks with the same gynecologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
