What Causes Hand Tremors?

My 17 son has hand tremors that we just noticed. They are worse when extending his arms, not so bad if he is holding something. He has a great uncle who had parkinsons. Is parkinsons genetic? I will make an appointment for him tomorrow, but it seems very odd for an otherwise very healthy kid.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your son's symptoms.

It is unusual to have symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) at a young age of 17. Also, the other features of PD such as slowness of activities and rigidity of arms/legs are not there, so, I do not think that your son has PD.

PD can be genetic in about 10% of cases.

Neurological examination would sort out the diagnosis.
