What Causes High Sugar Levels While On Treatment For NSCLC?

Good evening. I was diagnosed with NSCLC in March of this year, had surgery in April (pneumonectomy) and underwent 4 courses of chemo therapy. Now my blood sugars (glucose) levels are high, and the primary care physician says I'm in danger of becoming diabetic. Any thoughts? I excercise daily, I eat the right foods, and I'm losing weight (finally) i gained about 15lbs during therapy

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Cancer treatment involves giving many chemotherapeutic medicines in high doses. These drugs might alter glucose metabolism in the body and predispose a person to higher levels of blood glucose.

This might be considered as a stress on your system in response to the disease and the treatment. It is suggested that you please get HbA1c test done and if the report shows more than 6.2 percent then you should try any limit the sugars. As a part of your recovery you should take a 2200 kcal diet containing good amount of proteins. Please do not worry.
