What Causes Irregular Periods And No Luck To Conceive After IUD Removed?

I have kept a record of when and how long my cycles have been since January.

Jan-28 days

Feb-35 days

March-33 days

April-30 days

May-31 days

June-35 days

July-31 days

I had a baby in Dec 2008. In Feb 2009, I got put on the Mirena. In 2010 (around March-May) I had to get the Mirena replaced due to complications. A couple of months later, I had to get the Mirena replaced again due to the same complications. On Nov 1st 2010, I had the removed completely and decided that we (me and my hubby) wanted to try for another baby. We started trying on the first day that the Mirena was removed and have had no luck. Before I got pregnant my periods were on a regular 28 day cycle. However after the mirena, my periods have become irregular. (as you can see) My question is, can there be something wrong or a problem that is keeping us from getting pregnant again? Should I see a doctor to get prescribed medicine? and is it a bad idea to use clomid over the counter to get pregnant without a doctors approval? (I will be seeing a doctor as soon as I know I'm pregnant)

Hi,

It's almost 10 years now since you started planning for your second baby. You must consult a Reproductive medicine consultant and find out whether you need treatment. They usually run blood test to check hormone levels, then scan to monitor follicular and endometrial growth. They will check the patency of fallopian tubes. Based on the results, they will plan your treatment. It is not advisable to take OTC drugs to treat yourself on this condition. Start taking folic acid 5 mg once daily both you and your husband. It is advisable to take it for 3 months before you conceive.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jasmine Jagan, General & Family Physician
