What Causes Itchy And Red Skin At The Area Where Injection Was Given?
I had my blood drawn yesterday for a glucose screening as I am 27 weeks pregnant. The nurse drew one vial of blood and then told me I was free to go. As I was walking out she apologized, told me to come back so she could get on more vial for a white blood cell count. She re-punctured my arm to do this. This morning the area where the injections occurred is hot and itchy and the skin is a little raised and irritated. Is this cause for alarm?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that there is inflammation at the site of needle piercing and traumatic injury to the tissues can lead to redness and slight swollen bump at the site of piercing of needle..
There can also be mild infection.. I would suggest you to do cool compresses over the swelling.. You can apply a steroid ointment over it.. Avoid scratching of the area with the nails as it might cause infection..
But in case if the condition worsen you should consult your treating physician and get evaluated and treatment can be planned according to the clinical evaluation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
