I am concerned for my 50-year-old male fiance. Three weeks ago, he was exhibiting cold symptoms (cough, headache, and runny nose). He took DayQuil, Exedrine and Zyrtec. He rarely ever takes medication. Two weeks ago, he began experiencing flu-like symptoms of body aches, chills and night-sweating, and still a very hoarse, unproductive cough. He was given Amoxicillian on 3/27/14 and Prednisone to treat infection. He developed a rash on his chest and arm, and was unable to sleep lying down all week, after 8 days of the antibiotic. His physician prescribed a Zpac and told him to stop taking the Amoxicillan. He has taken this antibiotic (Zpac) for 4 of the 5 day dosage now and continues to experience all symptoms... only they seem to be worsening. His cough is unproductive, dry. His voice sounds hoarse. He says he has no sore throat. He has pain all over. He feels no energy. He says he feels okay in the morning after sleeping in a recliner chair through the night. By 3PM, he feels horrible. He has a 100-101 fever that does seem to break with 1500 mg acetimenophen. He NEVER complains about pain and hates medication. He is currently having difficulty tolerating his body aches and joint pain until it s time for the next dosage of pain medicine. He had left jaw pain last Monday or Tuesday which subsided. His left shoulder was so sore he couldn t even lay on it. He can not sleep lying down all of the way. He intends to go back to the physician tomorrow... but it is extremely difficult to convince him to see a doctor. I m concerned that his symptoms are serious. Help?
