Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my son is 7 months old. He s just been discharged from hospital from suffering fever. He had been treated with antibiotics injections for 5-6 days. During the stay in hospital, the doctor had conducted various blood tests for him and it was found that his Absolute Neutrophil count (ANC) is very low, under 500 mm3. Now today he had another ANC test, and it remains low (under 500 mm3). I am really worried. Please advise what could be the causes for such low count? What could we do? From your experience, will the count rise again after full recovery from illness? How long does it take? Thanks in advance for your answer.....from a worried mother
Hi, it's very unfortunate that you are dealing with this problem. ANC less than 500 indicates infection in child and also that the immunity of child is very low. In my opinion, you should immediately hospitalize the baby as there is risk of severe infection. I hope your child to be healthy soon. Take care.
