What Causes Nodule On The Vocal Cord With Red Patches?
Love the name! I have just been diagnosed with nodules on my left vocal cord and a 'red area' - I am not too bothered about the nodule though this will be biopsied, what does the red area signify - ironically I trained as a Speech Therapist but that was 37 years ago! Thanks
Hello, I am happy to answer to a speech therapist about vocal nodule. You know very well that the nodules arise because of excessive strain on the vocal cords and which is of long duration . and then the vocal nodule causes change of voice because of the glottic chink or the space created by the nodule because it does not allow the cords to meet while speaking and secondly the pitch changes because of the mass effect of the nodule on the cord. and so we try to overcome the change in voice and the strain and so causes more strain on the cords. The red area could be because of the excessive strain . Secondly it could also be because of the reflux disease if you have. You need to take voice rest . In addition anti inflammatory enzymes and if possible a short course of oral steroids would help a lot. In doubt do reply
