What Causes Pain And Stinging Sensation On Birth Moles?

I have 2 different moles that I have had since birth, they have never changed (to my knowledge). I have recently noticed that from time to time (few times a month?) one or the other will kind of hurt, throb, sting, or just feel uncomfortable. I don't know how to explain it other than it sometimes I can actually FEEL it. Should I check them out? What may it be?
