What Causes Pain At The Base Of The Shin?

Hello, I am a 42 YO female (128 lbs); I have Lupus; and sticky blood. Over the past 3 days I have noticed an increased pain at the base of my right shin, about two inches above the top of my foot. My calf does not hurt. The pain increases when I flex my foot (especially when I walk), but does not hurt when I am at rest (sitting). I haven t fallen, injured myself or done anything to the leg. There is some puffiness, but I tend to have some puffiness around my achilles and ankles anyway due to autoimmune issues, but nothing severe. I am an otherwise healthy person and at first I thought that perhaps this was a muscular issue--any suggestions?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The lower part of the shin especially in the from could be a tendinitis, stress injury to the bone especially if you are osteoporotic or a referred pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. John Chacko, Orthopedic Surgeon
