What Causes Pain In Hip, Knee And Shoulder After Taking Macrodantin For UTI?
Hi-I am a 58 yr old female that started with hip, knee and shoulder pain two weeks after taking macrodantin for a UTI. The pain is on both sides-I have trouble sleeping. This has gone on now for 4 months. Could this pain stiffness and achiness be due to the macrodantin or have I developed polymyalgia rheumatic which I have researched on the internet. Blood tests from family dr show inflammation and xrays indicate osteoarthritis but not lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. What is your opinion? thank you very much.
It is unlikely that the macrodantin caused this problem. Polymyalgia rheumatica particularly affects women in your age group, and if you have a blood test showing inflammation, this is a strong possibility. Conditions similar to lupus and rheumatoid arthritis can give a positive inflammation test, but require other tests to diagnose them. A rheumatologist is the specialist I would recommend to evaluate all these possibilities. Osteoarthritis can also cause your symptoms but does not give a positive inflammation test. In my opinion, you should see a rheumatologist and not assume that the macrodantin caused all this.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
