What Causes Pain In The Head At The Temple During Nights?

Thursday night went to bed and started having pain in right temple. Felt just like normal headache but just in right temple. Had it most of night. But after I got up went away and was fine all day. Last night started to nap in the evening and pain came back actually seems worse when I m trying to sleep. Took Tylenol really doesn t seem to do anything. Had it all night took Tylenol through the night still there. Not severe but very annoying. I m 56 years old, female going through menopause. Only meeds I take are potassium for kidney stones. Blood pressure good. Cholestoral not the greatest but not extreme.

Hi,

Whenever I hear of patient reporting any type of headache that only really appears when they are laying flat I tend to think of vascular and hypertensive headaches. Whenever a person lays down the blood pressure that the arteries are exposed to in the head actually increases. Typically this causes a pulsatile or throbbing type of headache in that region.

I know you mentioned that your blood pressure is good, one though I would ask you to do is to check your blood pressure after you have been laying fat for at least 5 minutes. If it is elevated that that does need addressed with your family doctor. Since you are going through menopause, the hormonal changes can cause somewhat unpredictable changes in your blood pressure particularly when you are at rest and laying flat. Ibuprofen is generally more effective than Tylenol and might be worth a try.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
