I'm 36 years old and I had a laproscopic Nissen Fundoplication surgery 11 years ago to treat GERD. The operation has provided me with 11 years (so far) of success with no problem with GERD since then. Recently, about 4 months ago I started having colicky pain & heaviness in my right side abdomen right below my ribcage and under my shoulderblade in the right side back. Gastro Dr did an endoscopy and HIDA Scan as well as CT scan. No gallstones were found and HIDA scan came back normal. I should say that the pain increases with fatty meals. During Endoscopy he saw that the space in my stomach around the sutures used to complete my nissen surgery are ulcerated. He thinks that my body is now rejecting the suture material and that it's causing the pain i'm feeling. My question is: is it possible for the ulcers to increase to the point that they cause a stomach perforation? His suggestion was to meet with a surgeon to discuss removing the sutures. the pain is incredibly bad and wakes me up in the middle of the night. I'm still not convinced it's not my gallbladder, as he stated that occasionally people have gallbladder problems that don't show up on tests, and the pain I feel sounds identical to the pain my friend felt right before she had to have her gallbladder removed. I really don't want to have to continue to just put up with this pain, but I'm also nervous about additional stomach surgery to remove the sutures. Also, I have a low grade fever (this have been going on for a couple of weeks) I run a low body temp of 97.4, and I'm running 98.9 pretty consistently. I guess i'd just like some input or a second opinion. thank you for your time!
