My 93 yr old mother has developed pain in her upper arms over he last few months. She also had significant edema of the left hand only. No history of injury to her arm. She also has swelling of ankles and legs that she has had on and off for several years, sometimes developing into cellulitis. Can th hand swellinf be from cardiac and kidney failure?
Hello, welcome to the HCM, As at this age the most common cause can be arthritis causing swelling and pain in the limbs. Yes heart failure and kidney failure can also cause the edema in legs, also vericose veins (tortious deep veins of calf muscles) can also cause swelling of legs.My suggesestion would be get consulted by a physician to rule out any above mentioned cause. You can give tab.ibugesic two times to relieve the pain and inflamation for a while, unless a cause is diagnosed. Some routine investigations for example ECG,kidney profile and bone scan may need too. Hopefully my answer is helpfull, Regards,Dr.Maheshwari
